As you are preparing to come to Haiti to serve, we want to communicate with you some of our needs. You already know the people in Haiti are extremely poor by any standard in the world. The average Haitian earns $3 a day, and the unemployment rate is around 70%. Groups coming down are always asking us what they can bring to help out. Many have asked if there is something they can do for Christmas. The Foursquare Church in Haiti has two orphanages and six schools; those leaders ask us frequently for supplies, because they are in dire need of them and have little money. Our dream for this 2010 Christmas is to provide each child with a backpack filled with toys and school supplies. This would provide a backpack, much-needed school supplies, and a Christmas blessing to many who may not receive any other Christmas presents.
For Christmas we are asking those groups that want to participate in blessing our children to bring as many of the following items as possible when they come. These items will be a great blessing to the children and the economy as we fill the backpacks with local toys and supplies. Please present our vision for blessing Haitian children this Christmas to your church body, friends, and family, to allow others to join in our giving.
- New Backpacks with $10 bill in each (you can buy inexpensive backpacks at Wal-Mart, Target etc. The ten dollars is for supplies and toys that will be purchased here in Haiti)
- At least one roll of Toilet Paper per team member for our orphanages. This is a costly item and they will be blessed to be fully stocked.
- $100 for each of our Haitian Churches to help them throw a Christmas Party. Our national leader, Pastor Guy, has told us this will bless them greatly. This money will pay for most of the food. We have 8 churches and three more are being birthed.
Thank you for your heart to serve. We appreciate you, your church, your team and all you do!
Serving Him together,
John and Debbie Booker
