As Haiti continues to capture world attention with sound-bites of earthquake devastation, cholera, corruption, and the election crisis, so much is missed in casual observation. Cholera truly is a problem with no real short-term solutions, and although more than 2,000 lives have been lost, the 100,000+ cases reveal a 98% cure rate that keeps this in perspective. We do need more medications. We do need more clean water solutions. And we do need medical teams who will take high risk ventures into infected areas to provide care, but for those who use filtered or purified water and have access to effective medical treatments, the threat is minimal. As for security issues and the election crisis, it is true that national anxiety is high and heightened by the difficult situations from the aftermath of the earthquake. We take these security issues very seriously and take every precaution to insure the safety of our staff and teams. Our Base Camp location, near UN camps and the US Embassy, along with our own security measures keep our ministry efforts, as well as thousands of other ministries operating here, active and effectively meeting the needs of a ‘transforming’ nation. The vision of FoursquareHaiti: “A Beautiful Haiti Living Abundantly in Jesus Christ” is becoming a reality as God does His work through the sacrificial giving of time and resources of people and churches from the US, Canada, and around the globe. We have teams scheduled to come to Haiti beginning mid January to carry on the work of helping our Haitian brothers and sisters as they rebuild their lives, their churches, and their nation, and we invite and encourage you to join us. We will continue, prayerfully vigilant, with daily and weekly evaluations to help us to determine if conditions are right and appropriate for teams to come, and we ask you to pray with us. So much has been done, but the work must continue as the love of God and the energy of the church bring healing to the land. 2011 will be an historic year for Haiti, remembered for the sweeping move of the Spirit of God as millions gave their lives to Christ, and for the remarkable recovery from the devastating earthquake of 2010. Watch this blog. Check out our website (being updated during the holiday break), pray and choose your team dates from our gmail calendar on the website. Now is God’s time for Haiti. “Peace on Earth” will be a manifest reality as we all Pray, Give, and Go! While Haiti is not the only place God is moving, and we do encourage you to continue your faithful support for FMI Global Fund, this is a ‘for such a time as this’ moment in Haiti and we ask your prayerful involvement for this nation. We pray a Wonder-filled Christmas for each one of you and look forward to hearing from you and seeing you in the new year. Blessings John & Debbie Booker and the Base Camp Staff
