This is my second trip to Haiti. The first time I was here, I came with a group of 13 people. Our stay was short (about 11 days) but we were able to get a lot accomplished. We did things such as moving large rocks, construction and helping orphanages -painting, building, playing with the children. The people here are absolutely beautiful, both inside and out… there was just no way that I could leave without them having an impact on my life. Needless to say, I fell in love with Haiti and even more with the people of Haiti.
About 7 months later, I find myself back in the midst of all the beautiful smiles you see everywhere you go. This time around, I’ve made a 3 month commitment – through the help and wonderful & willing hearts of my church back home in Hawaii, New Hope Diamond Head, I was able to raise enough money for my 3 month’s stay here in Haiti.
During my 3 months here, I plan on helping Pastor Guy fulfill his dream of opening a bakery. I’ve been a baker for almost 10 years now and knew right away this was exactly where God needed me to serve. I’m very excited and look forward to not only helping with this new bakery but also learning the different styles and techniques from the Haitian people themselves! Part of my time here will be spent working in different bakeries to learn from them! I can’t tell you just how excited I am to get this started!
Today, I helped Debbie with her English class… what a blessing it was just to be able to sit in the class with all of these eager students! They read from the New Testament and sang worship songs in English – what a great way to learn a new language!!
Well, I’ve been here for only 4 days now and I have already been blown away by the way God is working in and through the Haitian people and community. I can only imagine what I’ll see and experience over the next 3 months!
